First let's take a moment to appreciate the excellent fantasy names Ursa Major bestows on it's wines. “Song of a Sinner”, hell yeah dude. That sounds like a kick ass Merle Haggard record you found at a reasonably sized used record store. And this wine follows suit. Equally satisfying to enjoy basking in the sun or frolicking under the moon, this Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat blend is the result of a cool and wet spring and hot summer that pushed into fall, blended with pied de cuvee and aged on lees for 6 months. The result deserves to dribble down your chin to quench your thirst as you wrap yourself under a towel after skinny dipping with trusted companions.

My best bud is from the Okanagan Valley but was transplanted to Southwestern Ontario in eighth grade. He would tell me with tales of towns named things like “Peachland” and “Plumtown”, and a mischievous lake monster named Ogopogo with a twinkle in it's eye. I always thought he was being sentimental and telling big fish stories, but then I went to visit and sure enough it's like god damned Middle Earth or Narnia out there. Mountains tower over from lakes carved by glaciers, vineyards and orchards bordering every town, and the constant threat of fire made it all seem very other worldly. At Ursa Major, Rajen Toor brings a distinctly gentle French sensibility and varietals to this majestic landscape on the Black Sage Bench, using intuitive vinification methods determined in commune with the variations in vintage.
