From vines just outside of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 40% each grenache and syrah, with the remainder split between carignan and vaccarèse. This latter grape is rare because it is finicky and difficult to grow, but it adds beautiful floral and herbal aromatics. It fermented with wild yeasts and 20% whole clusters, and aged in concrete tanks for 10 months before bottling.
“Here’s a quite fine, juicy and fresh but not simple Cotes du Rhone with all the right notes of baked plum, lilac, dried herbs/shrubbery and a hint of licorice. It is medium bodied, balanced and shows good fruit intensity and depth without being overly hot, dense and extracted. Honest CDR. Very good to excellent length.” --91 points Michael Godel, Wine Align, May 2021
