2021 Golden Hour
Producer: Paradise Grapevine
Region: Niagara, Ontario
sunset blvd / blissful thinking / shimmering peach
For any of you that tried Golden Hour last year, we hope that it meant as much to you as it did to us. Personally, I think it’s the best wine we’ve ever made - textural, savoury, oxidative and damn-right complex. We decided that moving forward, rather than try to recreate the same wine each year, we would designate the Golden Hour label to our favourite orange wine cuvée of the vintage. This year that wine happens to be a blend of 100% Riesling from two different parcels from the Niagara Peninsula. The first parcel (60%) is a 14-day skin-contact fermented in one of our poly-eggs - Riesling from the Jenkins vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The reminder of the blend is barrel fermented Riesling that we painstakingly sorted over a 14-hour period to remove every last cute little lady beetle - anyone who was there still has phantom lady-bug hallucinations….they follow me I’m sure of it…. Both of these parcels were farmed organically (uncertified) and hand picked. This wine is brimming with freshness, bright peachy fruit, crispy pears and wild honey tea. There is a soft tannic veil, a zippy acidic backbone and wonderfully more-ish texture. We adore Golden Hour and we hope you do too.
